Approaching Each Session with a Fresh Set of Eyes

It is hard to believe that it is the first week of Session 5. Oh, how time is moving so fast! This week, Spark learners welcomed a new learner into the studio and happily took turns helping him with daily small tasks. Our new learner seemed to adjust well and acclimated rather easily into their new studio environment. As with each session, learners and guides review our contract that sits brightly colored on the wall for all to see.

Our discussion began with an older learner excitedly and eagerly ready to review the expectations from the studio contract to our new learner. All other learners listened intently as the contract was read. Learners then gave the contract some thought and offered feedback on what they thought we could add. Learners waited patiently to share their suggestions.

“Treat others like you would like to be treated”

“Use your indoor voice and walk in the studio”

“Bring healthy food to school”

With each session, the contract serves as an agreement for our learners to uphold. The promises that they make to each other help them take accountability for their choices, respect each other, and serve as leaders. It allows learners to share their thoughts with each other and be heard. This week, learners and guides saw evidence of just that. After all, we really do have some amazing learners in Spark!

What if our learners continue to meet the challenge and go beyond what is expected of them in the studio? Will they become global learners that change the world with their thoughtful actions?

As learners continue to learn and explore for the remainder of the school year, we wonder if they will inspire others to join in as they take care of their environment and each other. We’re thrilled to see what’s to come!
